British curriculum schools teach more of Dubai's private school students than any other curriculum: 37% of the 387,441 students enrolled in 2024-25, according to KHDA. At seven of the city's top-rated British schools, 2025-26 tuition ran from about AED 47,500 a year in FS1 to about AED 105,900 in Year 13, and KHDA has confirmed that private school fees will not increase for 2026-27.
Three things changed for families choosing a British school for 2026-27: tuition is frozen, the age cut-off for FS1 to Year 2 moved to 31 December, and Dubai gained five new UK curriculum schools in 2025-26.

What British schools in Dubai cost in 2026-27
At the seven schools above, tuition runs from about AED 47,500 a year in the first year to about AED 105,900 in Year 13, and fees rise as children move up the school. All seven charge more than AED 79,000 a year by Year 13.
Fees across the city spread much wider than that. Lower-cost British schools charge much less, and GEMS School of Research and Innovation, which opened in Sports City for the 2025-26 school year, set fees above AED 200,000 a year at the top of the school, according to Khaleej Times. The KHDA website and app show each school's approved fees year by year.
What the 2026-27 fee freeze covers
KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai will not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, following a directive from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. In a normal year, schools apply for increases linked to the Education Cost Index and their latest inspection rating. KHDA set that index at 2.35% for 2025-26.
The freeze applies to tuition. Registration and re-registration fees are separate, and so are transport, uniforms, exam entry and after-school activities, so ask each school for the full annual cost in writing before you accept a place.
How KHDA ratings work
KHDA's Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau rates private schools on a six-point scale: Outstanding, Very Good, Good, Acceptable, Weak and Very Weak. Reports also judge each phase of a school, so read the section for the year group your child will join, because a school can be stronger in its primary years than in its sixth form, or the reverse.
Check the date of the inspection behind any rating. Khaleej Times reported in May 2026 that it was unclear whether full inspections would resume in 2026-27, so the rating on a school's page may come from an earlier cycle.
The new age cut-off for FS1 to Year 2
From the 2026-27 academic year, the UAE Ministry of Education moved the admission age cut-off for schools that start in August or September from 31 August to 31 December. A child can join FS1 at a British school if they turn 3 by 31 December of the year they start, FS2 if they turn 4, Year 1 if they turn 5 and Year 2 if they turn 6. Schools that start in April keep a 31 March cut-off.
The new cut-off applies to children registering in the system for the first time. Above Year 2, schools place a child who transfers in using their school records and transfer certificate.
Five new British schools in 2025-26
KHDA listed five new UK curriculum schools for the 2025-26 school year: GEMS School of Research and Innovation in Sports City, Victory Heights Primary School in City of Arabia, Dubai British School Mira, Dubai English Speaking School in Academic City and Al Fanar School in Nad Al Sheba. Dubai had 233 private schools after those openings, and KHDA said in May 2026 that it was reviewing more than 30 applications to open new ones.
New schools can have places at entry points where established schools run waiting lists. They won't have the inspection history of an older school, so ask how they track progress and when their first full KHDA inspection is due.
Qualifications at 16 and 18
British schools in Dubai teach towards GCSE or International GCSE exams at the end of Year 11, then A Levels in Years 12 and 13. Some, such as GEMS Wellington International School, teach the International Baccalaureate alongside the British curriculum. Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge Assessment International Education set many of these exams.
UK universities treat Pearson Edexcel International A Levels as equivalent to UK A Levels, and Pearson states that every Russell Group university accepts them. If your child might move schools, plan the move for the start of Year 10 or Year 12. Changing schools halfway through a two-year exam course can mean a different exam board and different set texts.
How to shortlist British schools in Dubai
- Check the KHDA rating, the year of the inspection behind it and the judgement for your child's phase.
- Get the full annual cost in writing: tuition, registration and re-registration, transport and exam entry.
- Confirm the courses at 16 and 18, such as A Levels, the IB or BTEC, and where past students went to university.
- Ask about the waiting list at your entry point, and apply for high-demand years such as FS1, Year 7 and Year 12 as early as the school allows.
- Time the commute at school-run hours before you commit.
When an online British school makes sense
An online British school is worth considering if your family moves between countries every few years, or if you've arrived mid-year and the schools you want are full. Your child keeps the same curriculum and teachers through a move.
