Is online schooling legal in the UAE?

While home schooling (or online schooling) isn't an option for Emirati citizens, it is completely legal for expats to enrol their children in an online school when they are in the UAE.

All you have to do is register with your chosen online schooling provider that offers the International British Curriculum.

How does homeschooling work in the UAE?

Parents planning to homeschool their children in the UAE have various options to ensure that their children can apply to a KHDA (Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority) accredited university.

These options include the Rahhal Programme, the Ministry Programme, and the option of writing accredited international board exams such as the IGCSE’S through the British Council. In this article, we will discuss how these options work and how to enrol for homeschooling in the UAE.

Rahhal programme

The Rahhal programme is a hybrid learning model in which parents can register their children at one of the 30 participating private schools in Dubai. Upon registration, the school and the parents enter a contractual agreement determining how much time the student will be homeschooled instead of attending regular classes.

At the end of the school year, your child will receive a school certificate that states that they’ve completed the grade at the selected school.

Ministry programme

The Ministry programme is available to Grade 7 to 12 students (or students who are at least 14 years old). These students won’t need to attend regular classes (as with the Rahhal programme) but will self-learn the coursework set by the Ministry.

The students will take the ministry’s exam at the end of the term to earn their certificate. Completing the ministry’s homeschooling programme in the UAE is equivalent to graduating from any public high school.

British Council Board Exams

The third option is a complete homeschooling option available to parents who wish to educate their children from home throughout their schooling. Once your child completes the coursework and passes the British Council exams, they will receive a certificate from the British Council. They will then be able to apply to KHDA-approved colleges and universities, as well as universities across the globe.

How does CambriLearn Work?

We provide the resources for a complete online schooling solution - including notes, worksheets, step-by-step learning guides, marked assessments, tests and exams, pre-recorded video lessons, video resources and live lessons.

Additionally, with our Premium package, your child will have access to their teachers via direct messaging as well as weekly Q&A sessions where they can engage and interact with the teacher in a virtual classroom environment.

Everything is supplied except the textbooks which need to be sourced separately (we don't supply textbooks).

What are your fees?

The pricing is level, subject, and package dependent, with an once-off and monthly payment option (monthly payments are spread over 10 months.)

How does the flexibility work?

The International British (aka Cambridge) Curriculum online school provides the flexibility that affords students the ability to start at any time of the year.

The curriculum is presented on self-paced learning platform which doesn’t run a traditional school year with fixed terms, scheduling, or lesson times. As such, the learner's school year starts on the day in which you enroll and will run for 12 months from that point.

For International GCSE, AS and A levels you’ll just need to keep the Cambridge May / June and October / November exam times in mind and ensure that the student has completed their school work by using the student tracker.

Is CambriLearn an accredited school?

CambriLearn is a Cognia accredited online school, which is one of the world’s largest teacher-led accreditation bodies. Students graduating from Cognia-accredited schools are recognised at the best schools and universities around the world.

IGCSE, AS and A Level Students who enrol for British Curriculum and Pearson Edexcel subjects will write external exams at a Cambridge or Edexcel centre that accepts private students. The examination bodies (Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel) will issue the student's certificate which is accepted by universities across the globe.

Does CambriLearn cater for special needs?

Although our teachers aren't special needs trained, we do find many dyslexic /on-spectrum students prefer our online schooling platform simply because of the self-paced nature of learning.

Students can take their time and work at a pace that's comfortable to them. It is something that needs to be looked at on a case-by-case basis and depends on severity. If unsure, please speak to an Education Consultant who will ensure that online schooling at CambriLearn is an appropriate match for your family's needs.

Additionally, we can offer students concessions for their special needs.

Do Universities accept CambriLearn students?

The short answer is yes! CambriLearn students have gone on to study abroad and receive bursaries at local and international universities based on their results.
