First in HelloPeter's Schools category

HelloPeter, the South African consumer review site, ranks schools by TrustIndex. TrustIndex combines a school's star ratings over the last 12 months with the speed of its replies to reviews. To enter the ranking, a school needs at least 12 reviews in that period and has to reply to them.

CambriLearn and Teneo Online School both hold the maximum TrustIndex of 10. CambriLearn has the higher star rating and Net Promoter Score and replies faster. Teneo has more reviews.

Our Sandton profile on Google holds 4.7 from 138 reviews. Read our Google reviews

How the school day works

Your child logs in to CambriCampus each morning and follows a timetable the school sets. Teachers run the lessons and mark the work, and you can see how it's going.

  • Live lessons at fixed times

Specialist subject teachers teach live classes to a timetable, so your child's day has a shape and a teacher setting the pace.

  • Every lesson recorded

If your child misses a lesson, the recording is there to catch up on. Learners who train or travel use the recordings to stay with their class.

  • Teachers registered with SACE

Every CambriLearn educator holds a recognised teaching degree and is registered with SACE, the South African Council for Educators. On average they have taught for more than eight years.

  • Marked work you can follow

Teachers mark assignments, tests and exams and return feedback. In CambriCommand you can see that feedback alongside attendance and progress as the week goes on.

Six pathways in one school

CAPS, KABV and the IEB lead to the National Senior Certificate, the South African matric. The International British, Pearson Edexcel and US K-12 pathways lead to qualifications recognised abroad, and South African universities assess those for a matric exemption through Universities South Africa.

Your child can move between a South African and an international pathway without changing school.

Questions South African parents ask

Is CambriLearn a good online school?

HelloPeter ranks CambriLearn first in its Schools category, ahead of Teneo Online School. The school teaches live, timetabled lessons with SACE-registered subject teachers. It is accredited by Cognia and Pearson Edexcel, registered with SACAI and the IEB, and approved by the NCAA. Read the reviews and ask us for a sample timetable before you decide.

What is the highest-rated online school in South Africa?

It depends on where you look. On HelloPeter, CambriLearn ranks first in the Schools category and Teneo Online School second. HelloPeter leaves out any school with fewer than 12 reviews in the last 12 months, or that doesn't reply to its reviews, so many online schools don't appear in that ranking. On Google, each school's rating sits on its own profile, so compare the score with the number of reviews behind it.

Is CambriLearn registered in South Africa?

CambriLearn is registered with SACAI and with the IEB as an examination centre. Both are private assessment bodies accredited by Umalusi to run the National Senior Certificate. Umalusi accredits assessment bodies, so no online school holds Umalusi accreditation of its own.

Will my child get a recognised matric?

Yes. CAPS and KABV learners write the National Senior Certificate through SACAI, and Umalusi certifies it. It carries the same standing as an NSC from a government or private school, and the certificate doesn't say whether your child studied online. CambriLearn opened IEB Grade 10 in 2026 and Grade 11 for 2027, so its first IEB matric cohort is still to come.

Do I need to register my child for home education?

During the compulsory school years, South African law treats a child who learns full time with an online school as home educated. You register your child for home education with your provincial education department. Our South African homeschooling guide sets out the steps.

How much does CambriLearn cost?

Fees depend on the pathway, the number of subjects and the package you choose for each subject, and you can pay in monthly instalments. Textbooks cost extra, and you pay National Senior Certificate exam entry fees to SACAI or the IEB. Our fees page lists current prices.

Can my child start in the middle of the year?

Yes. The International British, CAPS and KABV pathways take new learners throughout the year. Learners heading for the National Senior Certificate also have SACAI registration dates and school-based assessments to meet, so speak to a consultant before you settle on a start date.

Where is CambriLearn based?

CambriLearn's head office is at 155 West Street, Sandton, Johannesburg. All teaching happens online, so office visits are by appointment, and the school has learners in more than 100 countries.
