What is the

International GCSE

curriculum?

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) Curriculum at CambriLearn is the progressive level from the Lower Secondary levels, providing students with an enriched and comprehensive educational experience. The culmination of this curriculum is the International GCSE Exam, a globally recognised assessment administered at accredited Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and Pearson Edexcel exam centres (curriculum dependent). This exam serves as a testament to the rigorous academic standards upheld by CambriLearn.

At this level, it is important for students who plan to study at university to consider which subjects will gain them university acceptance for their preferred study/career path. Every university faculty has specific requirements and students are advised to confirm these requirements with them directly. It is also important to confirm any specific university exemption requirements, in addition to university faculty entrance requirements.

CambriLearn offers Subject Choice Assessments by a qualified educational psychologist, at an additional fee, to help students choose the subjects that will best suit their individual personality and strengths.

Our diverse range of International GCSE courses caters to a wide range of interests and further study pursuits, ensuring a well-rounded and specialised education. Students have the opportunity to engage with two curricula at this level, namely Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and Pearson Edexcel. Both are aligned with the International British curriculum and therefore the qualifications are accepted in conjunction with each other. Subjects offered at CambriLearn for Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) examination at International GCSE are English First Language; Core Mathematics; Mathematics Extended; Afrikaans; French; Biology; Chemistry; Physics; Accounting; Business Studies; Economics; History; Geography, and ICT. For Pearson Edexcel, we offer English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics A, Computer Science and Business. This expansive selection empowers students to explore their interests and aspirations, laying the groundwork for future academic and professional pursuits.

International GCSE students may also include CambriLearn's Python Coding course, one of the most widely used and widely taught programming languages in senior schools, universities and businesses, where students will learn to code from the ground up. Python Coding is suggested for students with an interest in the field who may be considering Computer Science at International GCSE.

Course Outlines

At CambriLearn, courses are structured to allow students to work at their own pace. Each International GCSE course provides students with a detailed Course Outline and weekly schedule, guiding them through the coursework, tasks and exercises. Also provided is the syllabus document, confirming all the topics to be covered and how the material will be assessed in the final examinations. All learning material is provided online on the student dashboard in an easy-to-follow lesson structure, supplemented where applicable by prescribed textbooks. Students also have access to teacher-led, live online lessons and a comprehensive library of recorded sessions. These resources, meticulously designed by professionally trained teachers, are invaluable and can be revisited when additional time is required on any challenging topics, as well as for exam revision.

Throughout the courses, students will submit a series of assignments and tests in order to determine their progress and gauge exam readiness. These assessments are to be submitted to the student dashboard for grading by an experienced CambriLearn teacher (Standard and Premium package). Personalised feedback is provided on graded papers, equipping students with tailored guidance for continual improvement in their academic performance.

Academic progress can be closely monitored through CambriLearn's Student Tracker, which is also accessible to parents, guardians and tutors through their linked profiles. This tracker gives a clear, real-time overview of lesson progress, student submissions and current grades, enabling additional support to be activated where required.

Keeping track of lesson and task scheduling is facilitated through the interactive dashboard calendar, which allows students, parents, guardians and tutors to view all upcoming tasks by day, week or month at a glance.

International GCSE

Specific Outcomes

CambriLearn’s International GCSE courses are designed to prepare students for their final Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE)/Pearson Edexcel exams. Courses span 34 weeks, providing students with ample time within their 12-month subscription to prepare for their final exams, which are held in two (2) examination series every year in May/June and October/November. This flexible structure allows students to progress at their chosen pace, accommodating for additional time that might be required to become fully comfortable with the subject matter. Successfully completing the International GCSE course and achieving passing grades not only establishes a strong educational foundation but also propels students forward to their AS/A Level subjects.

Final exams are written at independent, accredited CAIE exam centres. Students will need to register with an examination centre well ahead of time (four (4) months) and confirm fees and timetables with them directly. These exams are set by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE)/Pearson Edexcel and will be assessed and marked by accredited markers. The final statement of results and certificate will be issued via the examination centres. Please note that some subjects are only examined in certain exam series. For example, Afrikaans (CAIE) is only examined in the October/November series each year and Pearson Edexcel Computer Science is only examined in the May/June series each year. Be sure to check availability with your registered examination centre.
