What is the

Foundation II

curriculum?

CambriLearn's Foundation II curriculum is the second phase of the two-level programme aligned with the International British Lower Secondary curriculum. The Foundation I and Foundation II courses are designed to prepare students for the next phase of their education, International GCSE (or IGCSE).

At this level, students continue with a more intense academic load and a broader subject selection, in preparation for their International GCSE level. The key subjects of English, Mathematics and Science remain, as does any second language course selected at Foundation I. In addition, students have the option to include CambriLearn’s EMS (Economic and Management Science) course, which introduces the International GCSE commerce subjects (Accounting, Economics and Business Studies) or the History course, which covers elements of European and American history, enabling students to study history confidently at the International GCSE level.

Foundation II students can also sign up for CambriLearn's Python Coding course, one of the most widely used and widely taught programming languages in senior schools, universities and businesses, where students will learn to code from the ground up. Python Coding is suggested for students who are considering Computer Science at International GCSE, and who would like to explore this subject in a fun and supportive environment.

Course Outlines

At CambriLearn, courses are structured to allow students to work at their own pace. Each Foundation II course provides students with a detailed Course Outline and weekly schedule, guiding them through the coursework, tasks and exercises. All learning material is provided online on the student dashboard in an easy-to-follow lesson structure, supplemented where applicable by prescribed textbooks. Students also have access to teacher-led, live online lessons and a comprehensive library of recorded sessions. These resources, meticulously designed by professionally trained teachers, are invaluable and can be revisited when additional time is required on any challenging topics.

To gauge student progress in a steady manner, students will submit a series of assignments and tests throughout the course, concluding with final exams. These assessments are submitted to the student dashboard for grading by experienced CambriLearn teachers (Standard and Premium package). Personalised feedback is provided on graded papers, equipping students with tailored guidance for continual improvement in their academic performance.

Academic progress can be closely monitored through CambriLearn's Student Tracker, which is also accessible to parents, guardians and tutors through their linked profiles. This tracker gives a clear, real-time overview of lesson progress, student submissions and current grades, enabling additional support to be activated where required.

Keeping track of lesson and task scheduling is facilitated through the interactive dashboard calendar, which allows students, parents, guardians and tutors to view all upcoming tasks by day, week or month at a glance.

Foundation II

Specific Outcomes

By the end of the Foundation II courses, which are based on a 34-week programme (with the exception of French and Spanish, which are 20-week courses), students have completed a series of assessments concluding with final exams in each subject. Students will have been exposed to a more comprehensive workload and explored topics in more detail in preparation for their courses at International GCSE level.

At this stage, students should begin to consider their academic goals and any tertiary studies they would like to enter. This includes researching subject requirements with the relevant educational institutions. Our Student Success Team is available to assist with any queries regarding subjects offered at International GCSE level and independent examination requirements at the International GCSE level.
