What is the

Foundation I

curriculum?

CambriLearn's Foundation I curriculum establishes the initial phase of a two-level programme that aligns perfectly with the International British Lower Secondary curriculum. Foundation I and Foundation II courses are carefully structured to equip students for the subsequent phase of their education, namely, International GCSE.

At this level, students begin to prepare for a weightier academic load and a broader subject selection. The key subjects English, Mathematics and Science are supplemented by age-appropriate courses in Afrikaans (which requires prior knowledge), French, or Spanish, providing a solid foundation for students pursuing second languages at more advanced levels. Not only is a second language proven to be beneficial in terms of cognitive development, but it is also often a requirement for university entrance. If a student is keen to continue their education at a tertiary level, they must confirm whether a second language forms part of their study requirements.

Course Outlines

At CambriLearn, courses are structured to allow students to work at their own pace. Each Foundation I course provides students with a detailed Course Outline and weekly schedule, guiding them through the coursework, tasks and exercises. All learning material is provided online on the student dashboard, in an easy-to-follow lesson structure, supplemented where applicable by prescribed textbooks. Students also have access to teacher-led, live online lessons and a comprehensive library of recorded sessions. These resources, meticulously designed by professionally trained teachers, are invaluable and can be revisited when additional time is required on any challenging topics.

Throughout the courses, students will submit a series of assignments and tests in order to gauge their progress, concluding with final exams. These assessments are submitted to the student dashboard for grading by an experienced CambriLearn teacher (Standard and Premium package). Personalised feedback is provided on graded papers equipping students with tailored guidance for continual improvement in their academic performance.

Academic performance can be regularly monitored through CambriLearn's Student Tracker, which is accessible through the linked parent/guardian/tutor profiles. This tracker gives a clear, real-time overview of lesson progress, student submissions and current grades, enabling additional support to be activated where required.

Keeping track of lesson and task scheduling is facilitated through the interactive dashboard calendar, which allows students, guardians and tutors to view all upcoming tasks by day, week or month at a glance.

Foundation I

Specific Outcomes

By the end of the Foundation I courses, which are based on a 34-week programme (with the exception of French and Spanish, which are 20-week courses), students will have completed a series of assessments, which then conclude with final exams in each subject. By exposing students to a more comprehensive workload, and exploring topics in greater depth, they are prepared for the levels that follow in the International British curriculum. A successful pass will enable the student to progress to Foundation II.
